Farm Sale Prices – New Approach

REINZ announced at the end of July the introduction of the REINZ Farm Price Index, as a superior and more accurate guide to changes in farm sale prices. The new measure has been developed in conjunction with the Reserve Bank and adjusts for property specific factors such as location, size and farm type in measuring changes in farm prices. This new approach of standardising the farm sale prices will make it possible to compare farm prices on a basis as close as possible to a like-for-like basis. This will reduce the need for second guessing the effect of the various factors on farm prices and result in better decisions being made by all parties in whichever region they may have an interest.
